After the install the device is running slower, VERY VISIBLE on games. I only play one game on it, Clash of Clans and it’s now visibly very glitchy. It was not before the iOS18 install.

My iPad 10 gen was completely fine until updating to iOS 18. It lags so much and it even glitches out when swiping through the apps on the Home Screen.
Previously, if you left a couple of applications Acrobat Reader and Pages open overnight, they would remain open in the morning (you could easily switch between them). Now (apparently there is not enough RAM) each application starts from the very beginning. Since switching to iOS 18, the iPad Mini 6 began to feel like some kind of electronics (with iOS 17 there was less of this)! It used to seem to me that the idea of Apple devices is that they erase the boundary between the virtual and real worlds. For example, if you took a notebook in the real world, wrote something down, put it back open, then took a book, read something, put it open on top of the notebook, went to pour coffee, and when you come back, the book and notebook are closed! Mysticism! Previously, with iOS 17, if you left a couple of applications open overnight, they would remain open in the morning! It's a pity that Apple periodically moves away from its ideas that it once advertised.
Your iPad Air M2 has a much faster CPU - and as such may mask the impact of background activity that noticeably affects performance of your iPad 9.

Having performed a major system software update, you should anticipate a temporary reduction in performance. After updating to iPadOS 18, many background system processes will be running - such as reindexing the file system.
After a few days, nominal performance can be expected to return.
Thank you. Makes sense but I've never experienced that before and I generally have newer devices. I'm sure the software is getting more and more complex and sizable so that explain things. I will hope in a couple days it level's out. I will say, no issues with my much newer iPad Air 13", just my iPad 10, Gen 9, which is not nearly as robust.
Not only games. All my apps are running more slowly. I have stopped doing important online stuff on my iPad because it runs so slowly. I use my laptop. I was forced to download the latest version of IOS 2 weeks ago when I got my new iPad, and it is terrible.
Very disappointed after installing iOS 18 on iPad Mini 6. The animation is very, very slow and smooth. Sometimes it seems that when switching between windows, the time of transition from one application to another takes longer than you are in the application to which you switch for some time.
iOS 18 is for those who have nothing to do, who aimlessly poke at the screen and watch the beautiful iOS animation. Very, very unproductive iOS!
They should have made it possible to completely turn off the tedious animation, and not like now the switch "reduce interface movements" which in fact does not significantly reduce the time of various transitions.
Or add a wheel to reduce the transition time.
This feeling when you watch a video with ad inserts and the ad is shown longer than the video itself!
