CarPlay not working with iPhone 16 Pro
I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to a 16 Pro, and the new phone will not connect to my 2018 Mazda CX-5 with CarPlay. When I plug it in, it charges but makes no sign of connecting.

I am so disappointed! My new iPhone 16 Pro does not work connect to my Carplay in my Toyota CHR. Had I known this, I would have upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro instead. :(
Hi Folks, I Just upgraded from 11 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max same issue with the CarPlay not working . My fix was to remove the phone protection feature on my Hyundai Santa Fe and then enable it again and then connect the 16 pro max with usb A to USB C cable and that fix the problem. Hope this helps . God Bless🙏🏿🙏🏿❤️❤️
I was at my wits end!! But another post said to get a Belkin data cable. I thought pfft just trying to sell a brand. But I had to do something. So I bought a data cable online (wasn’t a Belkin) and it actually worked!!! It was a fast data cable. Not just the charger. Hope that helps. Another person bought a CarPlay wireless adapter which worked for him. They are not cheap so I tried this first. Good luck
I had this same problem and doing a "Reset to factory settings" on the car radio is what fixed it for me.
I have three GM vehicles (two 2017 Chevy Cruzes and a 2019 Chevy Traverse) that I had been using with my iPhone XR via CarPlay for years. When I upgraded to an iPhone16 Pro the Traverse and one of the Cruzes worked immediately, but the second Cruze wouldn't recognize the phone via CarPlay no matter what I did. After two days of fiddling I finally did "Reset to factory settings" after which it instantly recognized the new phone.
Update: I just returned my first 16 Pro Max & swapped it for another… IOS 18.1 & running CarPlay, Bluetooth & AirPlay perfectly now! T-Mobile said this is unfortunately becoming a very common issue and they’ve had many returned iPhones lately.
Have you tried going into Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, and turned it on? That's fixed it for a lot a people. But you might have something in those settings specifically disallowing Music.
I got the answer (hopefully)!
I had the same issue. I drive a 2021 Mazda CX30 and I upgraded to the iPhone Pro 16 Max and the phone wouldn’t connect to Carplay. I saw it was a problem everywhere online so I had given up. I decided to look on Youtube and I found a guy sharing the gospel. Apparently, there are TWO types of USBC cables made. One for charging and one for Data sharing (that also charges). Find a cable that says it’s for data sharing in the description of the product and you got it! I bought a USB to USBC cable a Target for like $6.
Had the same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro and 2024 Ford Puma ST (Sync 3). Just simply changing the cable to a better quality one worked for me. I was using a cheaper Anker cable and it did nothing then swapped for the cable that came with my Bose speaker and it work fine, no other changes to phone or car settings.
Hope this helps, thanks
Hello, I encountered a similar issue trying to connect multiple iphone 16s to a 2020 toyota highlander and wanted to share how I fixed it. Took it to the dealer who had an iphone 13, his paired no problem, but he had no clue otherwise. So I went home and tried a few things.
The fix for me was to first reset the car radio to factory settings, then remove the old 'my cars' connection from the iphone 16, and then disable apple intelligence, and under 'talk to siri' setting, turn on 'press side button for siri' which prompted do i want to enable siri. select yes, and voila, carplay works.
HTH
It turns out that according to this list of car models, CarPlay is currently only compatible with 2019 - 2024 CX-5 vehicles.
I have the iPhone 16 Pro Max and experienced the same issue. I tried everything to get it working, including purchasing the Apple-branded Type C to Lightning adapter. Initially, it worked fine in my Jeep, but then it started freezing up. I had to unplug and plug it back in to reconnect.
After working with Apple Support, we performed a network reset on the device, and now it's working properly.
Steps to reset the network on your iPhone:
After the reset, your iPhone will restart, and you should re-enter your Wi-Fi passwords and reconnect to any Bluetooth devices.
Hope this helps someone out
OP update (2018 Mazda CX-5). I found that the cable I had borrowed from another device in my home was one of those that provide power but not data.
So CarPlay “works” now. But very oddly. I’ve seen this pattern repeat for the past three days:
It’s so bizarre, and completely repeatable. You would think it would either work or not work.

Hurray...it works!!! Opel Customer service helped me out and found the final solution!!! I have an Opel Astra from 2018 which doesn't support cordless Carplay. Nothing worked, tried many different cables, even an wireless adapter but the real solution is in the menu. Connect your Iphone with a cable, select in the dashboard screen of your car the option "Projection", if asked for give admission to connect your Iphone and it will show the Carplay menu on the screen. Then, choose in settings of the Iphone Carplay and the car will be shown in the menu. I am thrilled it finally works. Hope it will work for other cars too.
I had exactly the same issue. As soon as I changed to a USBC- A cable that supported data (rather than just charging) it worked straight away.
Purchased the Belkin braided USB-A to USB-C cable as recommended in this thread and CarPlay worked immediately. Thanks you guys!
my 16e wont connect to carplay either. i have no yet identified a way to make it work.
wish i stuck with my $200 android, never had any issues.
