why is ipados 18 not available?

I have a new iPad 11 M4. When I go to settings, iPadOS 18 does not appear as available. It just says it’s up to date with 17.7

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17

Apple has temporarily withdrawn the iPadOS 18 upgrade for iPad Pro M4. In some circumstances, the upgrade causes the iPad to fail and become unresponsive - a.k.a., is "bricked" and is unrecoverable.

As soon as Apple have resolved the issue for the iPad Pro M4 update, the update will be again be available. At this time, iPadOS 17.7 remains the only available update for your iPad Pro.

The iPadOS 18 update remains available for all other compatible models of iPad.

Contributors here are all end-users, just like you. Other than information published by Apple, nobody here has any insight into Apple’s product release schedule.

That said, given that a problem has been identified with the latest release of iPadOS, with Apple's flagship iPad, it is perhaps reasonable to assume that fixing the issue will be high on Apple's list of priorities...

I tried connecting it to several computers and my sister’s macbook and they can’t recognize that there’s an iPad connected. I don’t know what else to do. Can i please give you my info and can you do something about it?

In your situation, you may need to use a Windows PC or Mac computer to restore your iPad to iPadOS 18.0.1.

To do so, you will need access to either a Windows PC (with iTunes for Windows installed - or the more recent Apple Devices App) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS). Ensure that your installed version of iTunes has been updated to the most recent version; the essential device drivers are included.

If your iPad isn’t recognised when connected, try using a different USB port; if your computer has both USB-C and USB Type-A ports, try a Type-A port. Otherwise, this support page should help with troubleshooting connection difficulties:
