Which type of reset is preferable without losing the data?

1. Reset Location & Privacy: Resets the location services and privacy settings to their defaults.
2. Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

Neither resets impact your personal data (Messages, Contacts…). The 2nd one would remove our credit cards but that’s about it.

It’s always a good idea to backup your device before doing something that you may not be comfortable with. Peace of mind is important.

You’d need to uninstall the app, backup your iPhone, reset it to factory settings and restore the backup.

Is an iTunes backup from the PC sufficient, even if it's not encrypted?

Yes, an iTunes backup would be perfect. Do encrypt it so that the backup includes personal data such as passwords and health data.
