Two reasons that I asked the question about updating AMEX date:
What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to update an American Express card in your Apple Wallet or are you trying to update the AmEx card in your Apple Account (formerly Apple ID)?
Banks update the virtual card in Apple automatically when it’s time to update. Virtual cards have different information than physical cards.
The apps that requested an update are the apps that you entered your physical card and are storing the data from your physical card. The merchants knew the date was close to expiring and wanted an update. Those are the merchants that are most susceptible of being hacked and sharing your financial and personal information.
