iPhone keyboard lagging after iOS 18 Update

Hello guys, I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and I've been suffering for the famous keyboard lag since I've updated to iOS 17 one year ago. In my case the problem starts to occur when I enable 2 languages on my keyboard (for me, Italian and English). I hoped that with the iOS 18 update and the introduction of the bilingual keyboard this bug would finally be fixed but sadly, that was not the case. I've tried every possible troubleshooting known for this issue, yesterday I've even reset my iPhone, but again, without success. Is someone experiencing the same issue even in iOS 18? And have you managed to fix this? Thank you.

FYI for me it’s auto correct. When it’s disabled in settings, along with predictive, the lag is gone. So clearly Apple screwed up auto correct and predictive as usual and now typing is a nightmare on these phones. Time to switch back to Android.

I read that the update added the Dvorak layout so after removing all but the original keyboard, English US, I opened that keyboard and chose Dvorak. It worked! I went back and selected QWERTY and now the keyboard is back to normal. Hope this helps.

I’ve had 18.1 since it came out and it’s been a horrible sloppy mess. I use notes for everything I do and it’s crazy how slow the typing experience has been. It’s just as slow on my iPad mini 5 and that’s a significantly slower than my iPhone 12. I was convinced I’m gonna have to get a newer phone but seeing everyone with newer phones having the same problem this is CLEARLY apples fault. I should have stayed on iOS 17 🤦

I have finally figured out the problem, and this works for me. I have disabled the keyboard haptic feedback and the sound. After doing that, the lag has disappeared. The lag was coming due to the haptics not being able to keep up with my typing speed, which is the sad reality. I have an iPhone 15 plus

Wow I think the show math results was the main culprit. Hopefully. Because it made a big difference. Although I’ve been missing predictive text the last couple weeks I just turned it back on and there definitely is a bit of a lag but not as bad with math prediction enabled.

For me with an iPhone 12, since 18.2 the keyboard is gotta be 95% better,

but I just wanted to share what my current settings are, so that maybe other people can maybe replicate what I’m experiencing?

i got two dictionaries downloaded, the Apple dictionary and the new Oxford English

Auto capitalization, auto correction, predictive text, check spelling, smart grammar punctuation, character preview and the “.” Shortcut enabled. Everything else in that list Is disabled.

auto dictation is on below that. And emoji stickers enabled.

and so far I will say compared to how things felt before, it’s significantly less lagy. The lag before like was 3-5 letters behind for me. Right now it feels like maybe 1-2 at the most.

Tell me it ain’t so Apple tell me it ain’t so has the new update fixed my keyboard? I think it might’ve I am so optimistic. I am speechless. Yeah has anyone else experienced the no more lagging keyboard with the love of God after this most recent update that I just did today please let me know. Yeah, could it be fixed?

You must do a force reset (up volume down volume and hold power button until it resets. It’s better but still slow. **** nothing truly works this is ridiculous.

Doesn’t work but the new update they just pushed has maybe fixed my keyboard. To soon to tell but it feels so much better. Anyone else see an improvement? I truly do. Just so nervous and so used to the issue I am still not sure but it seems to have at least radically improved it.

i did a force reset just to be sure after the update. It’s improved but still a little skeptical. Anyone else see an improvement? Dang just saw a lag. But it’s better not great but better. I can’t understand why this has taken so long. It still feels weird but better.
