How do I get Numbers to use a column and a row to look for something

What function (or combination of functions) will get Numbers to cross reference a table by column and row?

iPad, iPadOS 17

It's hard to tell exactly what you are trying to do without a screenshot.

However, a combination of OFFSET and XMATCH is one way to do a lookup on two dimensions.

Here is a simple example.

The formula here in B3 is:

=OFFSET(Data::$A$1,XMATCH(B1,Data::A),XMATCH(B2,Data::$1:$1))

It uses the values in B1 and B2 to look up the corresponding value in the data table.

OFFSET counts down and right from the anchor cell, here A1.

The two XMATCH functions tell OFFSET how far to count down and right.
