So I put a AirTag in my bag just in case you know. Anyway when I’m on the bus and in school will people around me get notifications saying that my AirTag is following them even though it’s in my bag and I have my phone with me? I just wanna make sure everyone won’t be getting notifications that they are being tracked because that just makes me look weird

Don’t worry, other people will only get your AirTag notifications if it’s separated from you for a period of time.
Being on the bus and in school will not trigger the AirTag notification, as you wont be far separated with your AirTag.

Hey, the notification only pops up if the device (stranger's iPhone) thinks it's being followed by an AirTag. And for the notification to pop up and for it to make the assumption that you are being followed it would take around a day being close to the stranger's device. So no worries for short period of times like in your situation!
