Virus entrapment

Received a pop-up message purporting to be an official instruction from Apple, but it was not, that encouraged me to download an app to cleanup a purported virus, displaying a countdown. Happened when I clicked on an Instagram link that then took me to

Fortunately, I ignored & continued. It is the 2nd such attempt. Considering deleting Threads.

All such messages are scams presented by criminals. For future reference, close the offending page and avoid sites that are involved in such bogus advertising tactics. If you downloaded an App, delete it and cancel any subscriptions you may have to the bogus app.
