TV screen too dark for Apple shows

I am about ready to cancel my Apple+ subscription because it is too difficult to watch shows because they are too dark on screen. I have no problems with You Tube TV or Netflix, just Apple + TV. Why is this happening? I tried to watch Lady in The Lake and quit after episode 1

That is it. When TV's first started using Filmmaker mode it was a setting that was off by default and you can turn it on if you wanted it. For some reason, this has progressed to some manufactures automatically turning it on by default for movies that contain the metadata.

Even in the TV manual it states that movies will be darker when using Filmmaker mode. I honestly don't know anyone that prefers this setting as we are used to watching shows with the picture mode we have set it to use.

If your TV has a setting to automatically switch to Filmmaker mode, turn it off. Other TV's have a Picture Mode that you can use when it detects Filmmaker mode to override the darker picture you would normally get.

The TV is automatically switching to Filmmaker mode when a movie is detected. You will notice this when the UI on Apple TV looks bright as it should, but once a movie starts playing, it will be dark.

On your TV, go to Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode. Each manufacturer has their own way to manage filmmaker mode. You might have an option to shut off automatic switching to Filmmaker mode or a specific setting you want to use when your TV has detected a movie for Filmmaker mode.
