Accounts window under Mail in settings is frozen

I can send and receive emails on all my accounts except Gmail on which I can receive but can’t send. It asks for username and password to be entered but when I try to do this in Settings, the Accounts screen under Mail is frozen. It does not respond. I have switched the phone off and on but that did not help.
