Convert APCH video codec to standard MOV format?

I have a number of videos recorded with my iPhone 15 PRO MAX in Apple PROres resolution. How do I convert these videos to standard MOV format and WHY does Apple not provide a own converter?

Apple makes this statement: ProRes RAW can be regarded as a universal RAW video format: Every camera maker can provide their own unique processing, in a completely confidential way, by writing a single ProRes RAW plug-in that brings out the best quality and unique looks created by their own cameras. ProRes RAW becomes, in effect, the conduit for their custom processing. A single RAW video format, ProRes RAW can carry the unique characteristics of any camera, sensor, processing, and lens combination. ProRes RAW simply delivers the RAW sensor values at the highest quality and efficiency, and custom plug-ins handle the unique processing.

I expect Apple intends this as a common and widely-applicable raw-format video stream for higher-end recording, and not as a replacement for the usual MOV or MP4 files.

ProRes RAW is not the default recording format used on iPhone 15 Pro Max, and has to be enabled:

iMovie and Clips both support ProRes RAW, as does Final Cut Pro, among other tools. VLC apparently, too.

If you didn’t intend to record in ProRes RAW, import the video into iMovie or such, and transcode it there.

THANK YOU so much. This was very helpful and gives me a chance to "save" the vacation videos by converting it to a more readable format. I am by fare not an expert in video nor codecs.

I did intent to record to in ProRes RAW to see what it can do and now that you have provided valuable info, I am able to see it so - THANK YOU much appreciate.
