Trying to sync with a 4th generation iPod and my MacBook Air, running Sonoma 14.5 will not connect. How do I get my Mac to connect to my iPod?

MacBook Air, with M2 Chip, 16GB of memory, running Sonoma 14.5.

Tried to connect with several options, but no luck. Even downloaded several iPod and iPhone data and software systems, but no luck.
