Unable to send WhatsApp messages using Siri

I've been having a few issues with the way Siri and WhatsApp interact over the last few days. When I ask Siri to send a WhatsApp message, I get the reply "It seems that XXX doesn't have WhatsApp messages enabled" where XXX is the name of the contact I want to send the message to.

I've tried a soft reset, uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp, and updating everything to the latest version (I installed iOS 17.6 this morning), but I'm still having the same problem.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

Ok - just found a post that will help: just add the word ‘mobile’ to your name request, “Hey Siri send WhatsApp message to Bob mobile” and it works!!

Just Say; Pic 1: Hey Siri, Call "XYZ" on WhatsApp.

Similary Pic 2: Hey Siri! Send a message on WhatsApp.

Here is what I get when I ask Siri to call/send a message using WhatsApp.

Pic1: it says "It seems that XXX didn't enable WhatsApp messages"

Pic2: it says "WhatsApp didn't find XXX"

In both cases I can call and send a message using the app without any problem.

Great, this worked for me as well. However, is there a way to fix that? I used to be able to do it without saying mobile? also, noticed that it does not learn it, I hoped it would be only the first time.

"Siri, send a WhatsApp message to xxx" worked fine yesterday but stopped today unless I add mobile or whatever.

This is absolutely an Apple/Siri issue and smells like they're trying to reduce the usability of WhatsApp on iOS.

I’m encountering the same problem when trying to send a WhatsApp message using Siri. When I ask Siri to send a WhatsApp message, it responds with, ‘Hmm, it looks like the recipient does not have WhatsApp enabled. To who??’ However, when I say, ‘Send a WhatsApp message to phone number 000000,’ it works perfectly.

Running on iOS Version: 17.5.1 and WhatsApp Version: 2.24.15.79

Have the same problem over here in Spain. Tried everything even reinstalling iOS. Nothing has worked. Siri seems to be on summer vacation!!

Thank you for the resolution! It is a bit (pardon of the language) crap to now have to say mobile. It'll take some getting used to, but at least they fixed the music bug!
