keynote, default text alignment

Hello! I create simple keynotes from scratch for middle school classes. I decided to make a template keynote because I seem to use the same stuff over and over.

one thing that I cannot figure out, is how to stop Keynote from defaulting to aligning the text to the center. I've tried saving the text style with it aligned to the top, but whenever I create a new text it again, always defaults to the middle alignment. I know it's not a huge deal to have to go in and click it, but I do a lot of these and I have to do it with every single text box I create.

anything I'm missing? is this changeable?
