edit lower third of screen in iMovie

StreamYard has cleverly added a new "feature" that my client did not see when he recorded a session.

The "feature" is a lower third that shows "viewer comments" as default with a check-off box that he missed.

Is there a way to remove the lower 3rd of the screen and then stretch it to proper size.

Hi,

You could crop the lower third of the video in the media browser pane as opposed to the time line.

So, working with a duplicate, if you started with this:

And cropped off the lower third, that would leave you with black bars at the top and bottom to make it fit the screen.

If that's not acceptable, you could then either Crop to Fill it or zoom it with Ken Burns to expand it out to fit the screen and get rid of the black bars. That would necessarily involve cropping material at the left and right sides. Maybe O.K. if you have sufficient material on each side to handle the crop.

Hi, again,

Another way to crop off the lower third might be to play the movie on your desktop and make a screen recording of it. As it plays use the Command-Shift-5 feature to screen record a selected portion of the video that you outline with your cursor using the drag select option. The screen recorded movie would be deposited on your desktop. Drag it into iMovie and see if it fills the screen with the lower third eliminated.
