Home pod mini stuck on setting up

Just bought a home pod mini to replace an old Amazon Alexa.


It shows up in the home app and I go through the usual steps however it seems to stick on “setting up” perpetually, occasionally it asks for my Apple ID password but that doesn’t progress things either.


I’ve tried all the trouble shooting, resetting the pod, uninstalling home, etc etc, but nothing works, I left it for around 20 mins or so and it just gave me a failed message.


apples famed usability is starting to look a bit suspect. I have an Apple TV iPad and iPhone all on the same WiFi network.


I see loads of posts about this issue, would I just be better off retuning it and getting an echo?
