I was recently on a road trip, with my Airpods often sitting in their case in my pocket. I was getting notifications constantly that they were "left behind" at some random point along the road, while they were sitting in my pocket. I also "lost" another set of Airpods because the Find My app wouldn't detect their presence under the seat of the car, even though I was actively searching them using the Find My app all around my home, cars, yard, etc.

With the inaccuracy of this service it seems like it's almost useless at trying to locate Airpods, and probably other devices like Airtags.

My question is how do you improve the accuracy of the reporting/notifications of the Find My app for these devices?

The airpods are not actually lost. As I said in my post, they were sitting in their case, in my pocket, while I was driving. The problem is that I get random notifications from Find My that "Airpods 3 were last seen..." at some location along the highway I'd just driven. And all along they're sitting in my pocket.

The question is, if the Find My app is going to report that they were last seen back on the highway somewhere, why doesn't the app just ping before the notification and find them right next to my phone, in my pocket?

As your question is quite different from the original question that Niel responded to, you might want to start your own thread with a subject line that describes your issue.
