i bought imovie maker in 2022 and now i'm being told that i have to pay for it again. I thought it was free in the beginning but now I don't understand being charged again for it. It put a watermark on my project

It's something of a con or scam.
The advert is designed to mislead and give the impression it is Apple or iMovie connected . . . which it isn't.
The price of $49 is also ridiculously high as you can get much better apps completely free including the really professional app DaVinci Resolve.
Some developers offer free apps and then charge additional for add-ons, full use, or services. Best to contact the developer. Apple iMovie is free.
I suspect this is Filmora, they tend to advertise a lot, and try very hard to confuse themselves with iMovie.
