iMovie - Audio Scrubbing Not Work For Arrow Keys

Hi everyone, done some googling and can't find an answer. Audio Scrubbing isn't working anymore for arrow keys. I have audio skimming ticked and audio plays when I move my mouse along and for the j, k & l keys, but when I use the arrow keys audio doesn't play. Using the arrow keys is the best way I narrow down exactly where to split clips. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm using iMovie 10.4.1 and Sonoma 14.5

Thanks

When I tested on my 2017 iMac (Ventura) it was a bit glitchy in that reverse scrubbing did not work until I fiddled around.

On my M2 mini (Sonoma) it worked perfectly in both directions. I am wondering whether the power of the computer might be affecting it.

On another note, the fact you are using audio scrubbing suggests that you are a reasonably advanced editor so it might be an idea to upgrade to a more professional app.

Final Cut Pro costs £299 . . . BUT there is a FREE 90 DAY TRIAL with no strings attached. Just hit the download button and it's yours for 3 months. At the end of that time it simply stops working unless you decide to buy it.

However, every time there is an update you can download the new 90 day trial!

Alternatively you can get the completely free version of DaVinci Resolve although it has got a steeper learning curve than FCP.

Hi,

Here are a few more things that you can try.

Opening iMovie in a new library

Try opening iMovie in a new library.  To do that, open iMovie while holding down the Option key and then selecting to create a new library in the box that appears.

Opening iMovie in a new user account

Create a new user account and try to open and use iMovie in the new account. You can use the Guest account on your Mac for this purpose.

 New Project

Another thing you can try is to copy your media into a newly created project and see if that cures the problem. To do that, do an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, of the media in your project and then Edit/Paste it into the newly created project.

Safe Mode

You could also try booting up in Safe Mode and, after everything loads, immediately shut down and reboot in normal mode. Then see if iMovie works properly.
