How do I stop SOS alerts after a fall with Apple Watch?

After my wife fell, and dismissed the alert on her watch, alerts continued through the day. Rebooting watch and phone had no affect. The alerts were (Persons Name) position has moved, referring again to the fall. As a result I removed our children's names from emergency contacts. This is a "cry wolf" problem, that makes the function almost worthless. From other peoples' replies, it appears this continues for 24 hours. There needs to be a simple and obvious way to stop these alerts.

Did you already try to disable the feature in the settings, force restart the watch and enable it again?

To force restart the watch, press and hold the side button and the Digital Crown together for at least 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.
