I am unable to start a new iMovie project

I want to create a new movie.

But on opening iMovie I find myself stuck in my last project. When I choose the file drop-down menu I cannot open a new movie - it is greyed out.

There seems to be no means of escape from the previous project.

Please could someone help me move on to the next project.

Thank you

Hi,

Sometimes iMovie preferences can go awry and cause the app to malfunction. Try deleting/resetting preferences. To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if iMovie operates correctly. Possiblyyou may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure thatwill not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, that is much appreciated.

I have just managed to solve the problem by clicking on "projects" below the drop-down menus, which took me back to an area where I could open a new movie.

Is it very strange that iMovie doesn't have saving and exiting in the drop-down menus as you have with other apps such as Pages and Logic
