I am in FRC (First Robotics), and often work on our robot CAD on this laptop. If I constantly leave the laptop plugged in, will it degrade the battery faster? Or will it save the battery due to the laptop using the power supply and not the battery?

You can leave the computer plugged in whenever convenient to do so. Leaving the computer plugged in will not damage the battery or the computer. The MacOS manages the power/charging system very well. You do not have to worry about or micro manage the system.

I also have a 14" MBP, and for the first year or so I would run it off the battery a lot. In that time, the maximum capacity was declining quite a bit faster than the battery in my previous MBP, but now that I keep it plugged in almost all the time, the capacity has stopped going down.
