can I send an iMovie with my own sound, videos or pictures to the copyright office?

Hello,

can I send an iMovie with my own sound, pictures, images, etc. to the copyright office to be copyrighted without any legal issues.

Thanks so much!

You have copyright as soon as you create your work. And you should mark all copies with the normal copyright assertion: (c) year, name, All Rights Reserved.

You can register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office through copyright.gov. You can preview the application before starting your own. Normally you submit 2 copies of the work to the U.S. Copyright Office, not directly to the Library of Congress.

But read Copyright Basics from the U.S. Copyright Office before pursuing registration & deposit.

While you did not specify your concern about using Apple software in your initial posts, the answer remains the same. Your work is yours. Additionally, the music and images included in iMovie are royalty free for use in your project. If you tried to copyright the iMovie code or included the code/software, that would not be allowed. But the video that you create is yours. See https://www.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/iMovie.pdf

Hello,

Thanks for your response but you're not helping me. I know I can do whatever I want with my work but I just want to be sure I won't get into any legal problems because I'm using an Apple product to make my videos. Maybe it is better if you don't know about a subject or you aren't sure, not to answer because it can get people more confused.

Thanks so much!

Why on earth would you want a video copyrighted?

Is it some fantastic, priceless classic that the multitudes will be clamouring to pirate.

Get real, nobody but you and maybe your close family or friends will have the slightest interest in what you do.

I have been making films and then videos for the last 49 years (several of which have won prizes in local competitions) but have never suffered from delusions of grandeur.
