What iTunes app? There is no iTunes app on iPod.

As I said before, its either the iPod app or the Music app depending on the iOS version your iPod is running.

Does the icon look like this:

If so, yes, you can use the 3rd party apps in the Use tip I posted above to extract the "recordings" from there onto a computer.

Otherwise, you'll need to clarify which app on your First Generation iPod Touch holds those "recordings".

I wonder whether you actually mean music from CDs, or purchased from stores other than the iTunes Store (e.g. Amazon) that you added to the iTunes programme on a computer and then copied to the iPod.

If so, then "recordings" is misleading; a "recording" is live audio (for example, in a room) that you have captured on a recorder (either an old tape recorder, minidisc or by a programme such as Audacity on a computer).

If you are referring to music (from CDs etc.) that was in an iTunes Library, then what you should have done was either:

    • keep that music on your computer and listed in your iTunes programme (where it forms your Library) and when you purchased a new computer, you would then have transferred the library to another computer and then onto another device
    • kept a backup of the music files that you could then use elsewhere, such as whatever device you're using now

Regardless of what you do now, almost every solution will require the use of a computer.

As I see it, your options now are as follows:

    • if you have the original CDs, re-copy them and then add them to whatever player you want to use now (this will require a computer)
    • if the music was all purchases from online store such as Amazon, go to your account with that store and download the purchases from your account. You may be able to do this from a portable device, such as an Android phone or MP3 player. It will depend on what device you want to add the music to now. You may not need a computer
    • if the music is now only on your old iPod, then you will have to try recovering it from the iPod, by using a third-party programme. (Note that iTunes has never been able to do this.) For more information about this, and a list of third-party programmes, see this article by turingtest2: Recover your iTunes library from your iPo… - Apple Community. Note that some of those programmes are free, others offer a limited recovery until you pay for their full service. Again, this will require a computer

For the future, make sure that you keep a backup of your music in order to prevent this situation occurring again.

I don't understand what you mean (unless it's as I outlined above). Your choices at that time (when the 1st gen iPod Touch was the current model) would have been:

    • buy individual songs and albums from the iTunes Store, in which case those purchases should still be available from your account with the store
    • buy individual songs and albums from other online sources such as Amazon, Bandcamp etc. in which case (as above) you should be able to download them again from your account with that store
    • buy physical CDs from a store, copy them into an iTunes Library (using iTunes) and then adding them to the iPod. If you no longer have those CDs, then your only option now is to buy the songs and albums again

In my iTunes app! But that was when Apple offered us to upload our own recordings - I think I paid less of annual fees then are current Now but whats the use in my paying if I can't transfer those recordings (I no longer have a laptop or computer!) I think I had to record on my then gaming laptop via Itunes and through it, the transfer downloaded them... Thanks for responding!

Is it possible to transfer my numerous First Gen iPod Touch recordings?
