How to quit the compass on my Apple Watch SE?

I have Apple Watch SE 2nd gen. A few days ago the compass turned on and always becomes the watch face. I swipe and close it with the X. It automatically comes back on no matter what. I turned off phone and watch and turned back on. Same problem. How can I make the compass stop turning on? I don’t want to delete the app.

Does the compass have a tracking and backtracking of waypoints? Are waypoints entered on the compass? If so, the app will keep appearing until waypoints are deleted.

Some Watch Faces that have complications for compass can be accidentally activated and waypoints accidentally entered when arms are folded. When this happens the face is persistent.

Yes. That's correct.

I deleted the retrace if there was one (often there wasn't) and the issue persisted.

Like I said - the accessibility change seems to have helped for a bit - but the issue was so inconsistent that I'm hesitant to celebrate too soon.

Thanks for trying to help with this.

I'm hoping that "Auto-Select Focused App" being Off will continue to help.
