To organize my photos I now have a large number of Folders, subfolders and albums, often expanded as I am adding photos to each on. It is tedious scrolling down, trying to find the right one from a long list of names and would be more convenient if I could put the Folder names in bold, for example, to make them quicker to identify in the long list. Is this possible?

No fonts, but you can put the folders and albums in alphabetical order. Right-click (or control-click) on My Albums or a folder and choose sort from the menu.

You could create smart albums that view the album with the same name. Then sort them alphanumerically. This would allow you to more quickly find and view photos of a project. To add photos to an existing project you'd have to search for that particular project album.
Another organizational tip would be to create a key work for each project and add that to all photos related to that project. Then the smart album would be to view all photos with that keyword. Then you wouldn't need to folder/album hierarchy. That's how I organize my ASC support screenshots;
Just some food for thought.
Thanks for the suggestion. Most of the organization is by topic, so I don't want to change the order but that's a good idea for some of the sub-folders.
