How to Cast iPhone to TV with Non-AirPlay Models?

I've been struggling to figure out how to cast from iPhone to TV. I have a Philips TV which doesn't support AirPlay. I want to watch videos and share photos on the bigger screen, but every time I try, I can't seem to find the TV listed on my phone, or the connection drops unexpectedly. This problem has been especially annoying because I'm not sure if it’s due to my iPhone settings, the TV’s compatibility, or maybe my Wi-Fi setup. I really need a clear, step-by-step solution to cast my content successfully. I would be grateful for your help in solving my problem.

If you're looking to cast to TV from your iPhone and you have a Philips TV that doesn't support AirPlay, don't worry. A simple and effective solution is to use a Google Chromecast or an Amazon Fire Stick. These devices are small, portable, and plug directly into the HDMI port of your TV, allowing you to wirelessly stream videos, photos, and other media directly from your iPhone.

Some Philips TVs come equipped with built-in Chromecast. However, if your model does not include this feature, here’s how you can connect an external device.

First, purchase either a Chromecast or a Fire Stick and connect it to the HDMI port on your TV. Make sure this device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone, which is crucial for a smooth casting experience. Once everything is connected, download the DoCast app https://apps.apple.com/us/app/docast-cast-and-mirror-to-tv/id6446948344 on your iPhone. This app is specifically designed to facilitate streaming from mobile devices to televisions via Chromecast or Fire Stick.

Open the DoCast app, connect it to your device, and then find the media you want to cast, whether photos or videos. Select it, and you should see your media displayed on the larger screen. If you encounter any issues, such as the TV not showing up in the app or experiencing frequent disconnections, make sure both your iPhone and the streaming device are updated to the latest software versions. Restarting your Wi-Fi router can also help resolve connection problems.

If your TV doesn't support AirPlay 2, you'll need to use an HDMI Cable. I copied this from an article I found from a reputable source and it should help you:

Using an HDMI Adapter

One of the simplest options is to use an HDMI adapter that plugs into your iPhone‘s charging port. Two types of adapters that work are:

  • Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter (If you own an iPhone 15, you'll need a USB C Digital AV Adapter)
  • Third-party Lightning (or USB C) to HDMI adapter cables

Here are the steps to mirror with HDMI:

  1. Connect the adapter to your iPhone‘s charging port.
  2. Use an HDMI cable to connect the adapter to an open HDMI port on your TV.
  3. Select the correct HDMI input on your TV.
