Lost Windows partition on mac os catalina

I have a 2015 MBP running catalina 10.15.7 . The hard drive is partitioned to run windows for work, but i no longer need that. I'd prefer to have all the space for just Mac as the computer isn't working right. I'd like to reinstall mac os but I can't find the windows partition (although I can see half the storage is gone). In disk utility I can see that there are multiple volumes but can only see the mac volume. I've done enough googling to see that i should run diskutil list in terminal, but I don't know what to do next. any help is much appreciated:

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

  2:         Apple_APFS Container disk1     500.1 GB  disk0s2

/dev/disk1 (synthesized):

Interesting, there's no evidence of a Windows partition under '/dev/disk0'. If you open Boot Camp Assistant, does it prompt you to uninstall? Definitely don't use Disk Utility to remove Windows, that'll just create more problems. Ideally you should be able to remove it with Boot Camp Assistant.
