iTunes Match tracks skipping on iPhone 13 Pro iOS 17.4.1

I just transferred from iPhone 11 to iPhone 13 Pro. The transfer involved update to iOS 17.4.1.

My music library includes some purchased albums and some uploaded and matched from CDs and a few uploaded tracks mp3s I recorded myself and uploaded.


On my new phone only the purchased tracks play normally.

When I select an uploaded album. The iPhone skips rapidly without any audio through the tracks in the album.

When I select a playlist it skips through the matched and uploaded tracks until a purchased track which is then played.


Everything plays normally on my iPad, so my account seems to be ok. This only affects my new iPhone 13 Pro.


I noticed that some tracks skip faster than others. Presumably, longer tracks slow things slightly. If I try to switch to a different album, the change is ignored for a while, I think this is until the end of the album. Then it starts to cycle through the new selection.


I have deleted and restarted the music app. I have reset the phone several times.


My iTunes Match account - or whatever Apple call it these days - was renewed for the year in December, so it is current.


I attached some AirPods before I attempted to play from the Music app. These were linked to this phone and worked with the previous account. I have unlinked them and the problem still persists.


The problem was noted before I synced my Apple Watch, and persists after it was connected. Similarly CarPlay.

After posting the above, I continued to fiddle around on the - new to me - iPhone 13 Pro. When I located buttons to turn off repeat play etc., the skipping stopped, but now nothing played. Not even purchased items.

Then I found a tiny obscure button. When I tapped it there was a message about Apple Music previously being used with a different Apple ID from the one the phone is connected to now. If I wished to switch Music to the new ID tap here and warning me of a 90 day delay before I could change it back again. A minute or two delay for the sync of my library and all is well.

I understand that I was not signed in to my own library with my own Appleid, but I don’t understand why this happened or how I fixed it. I can see it would suit Apple for there to be a delay, but 90 days seems excessive. Another half day I will never see again!
