iPad is frozen on app and will not restart.

While watching a series on Hulu, my iPad froze on an ad and will not log down or restart. I’ve tried holding the power and volume button with no luck. :(

Due to the iPad being frozen, I am unable to access the serial number to enter for apple support. :(

If you haven’t already, try the forced-restart:

You can get the serial number by logging into AppleID.Apple.Com using the associated Apple ID and looking under the devices section.

Forced-restart your iPad:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

Force restart doesn't work when it freezes like this. I had to wait until the batter drained itself, charge it and restart.

When the forced-restart procedure is performed correctly, the iPad will restart.

That’s been my experience, as well.

Only times I’ve had force-restart fail were when the iPhone or iPad hardware itself had failed.

First two taps have to be very quick, and the third press held until the Apple logo, holding past any sliders that might appear.

this is exactly what happened to me - twice. I got it to work plugging it in after a few hours the first time, then after 5 days the second. All the button pushing did nothing and siri was still working -- just no screen so couldn't shut down. I am just reading about Hulu being the culprit. I had pink boxes but then black -- with an ad logo at the bottom and bar of multi colored dots that moved. very frustrating. Plugged it in today and it worked again.

I am going to genius bar tomorrow just for a check up -- but i uninstalled hulu and got the new version -- will see.

It really was HULU-- the new version seems to have fixed it but all the forced-restart attempts were futile.it took time for the problem to dissolve. then I put in new HULU and it seems to be fine. It was also weird that Siri was working -- but couldn't get him to turn off the iPad - it wouldn't accept verbal command for my password.
