Mac Mini Restarting After Going to Sleep

I'm getting a kernel panic after my Mac Mini goes to sleep. It reboots like normal and once I log in I get the pop up "your Mac restarted because of a problem" message. I used ChatGPT to interpret the kernel panic and it had something to do with a timeout of the DisplayPort or something like that. I have my Mac Mini connected to my monitor via HDMI but I do have my PC connected to the same monitor via Display Port but my PC is usually asleep when I'm using my Mac Mini.

Mac mini, macOS 14.4

Sleep is unnecessary and should be disabled. Shut for long absences/idle overnights (i.e. do not manual-sleep), and for regular operation, use the settings exactly as shown below, should fix.

Hi there, I appreciate your response. Why should sleep be disabled?

Because the latest macOS versions are having issues with computer sleep mode.

Some systems panic and force a restart, others wake up unresponsive.

As a test:

Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off" and only allow the display to turn off.

Leave the Mac ON and allow the display to turn OFF, then shut down for longer periods of non-use.

Personally, I just use Lock Screen and let it run 24/7. Reason I let it run when not using it directly is it is set up to do a lot of scheduled tasks like backups and is also used as a home data and media server and backup for my other devices plus a lot of OS self maintenance can take place during that idle time. Also, while it is idle, the new "M" series Macs draw very little power.

Now, if I am going away for a couple days or more I do power it down.
