Siri asking me which app to use to send a text message

When I’m driving and ask Siri to send a text message, she asked me which app to use. This is new behavior. I am not aware that I have any other app to use that messages. This is making voice text messages while driving unusable.

I had the same issue and finally found the solution on Reddit…

When you’re not in your car, ask Siri to text someone (contacts name). Siri will bring up a list of one or more alternative apps to use along with iMessage. Mine was Google Voice (could be WhatsApp, etc).

I went into Settings>Siri & Search>scrolled down to Voice (or whatever app Siri has you choose between) Toggle the “Use with Ask Siri” to ON. Completely close out of the Settings App. Go back into the same screen and toggle the “Use with Ask Siri” back to OFF. Completely close out of the settings app again.

Give it a try. Worked perfectly for me. Didn’t make much sense since it was already toggled to OFF but once I turned it ON and the went back in and switched it OFF it fixed it. Hope it works for you as well.

I asked Siri to send a message when I was home and could look at my phone. When “she” asked, “What app to you want to use?” I could see three app choices: Messages, What’s App, and Gmail. When I responded, “Messages,” she replied with the familiar sentence, “What would you like to say to…” Problem solved; I now have 3 ways to send a message!

Reply, Apple! And please don't advise to go into Siri and Search, then go through the apps and disable "use with ask siri." Doesn't change anything. Trend seems to be that when Siri shows yet another new defect they either don't respond or don't respond with anything helpful. Similar to questions of why Siri gets so much worse with every update. Grammar is ridiculous, it uses incomprehensible spelling of words it used to have no trouble with, throws in commas as if they're a profit center, spells the same word different ways in the very same message, etc. It's almost impossible to think how it could happen accidentally, but I can't figure out the business strategy for engineering it to be worse. Thanks for letting me vent. Please fix it.
