new iMovie 10.4 on Sonoma 14.4.1 went through my video clips and turned them into jpeg files

I just updated my IOS to Sonoma 14.4.1 on my Max Mini M1. that went well. Then I opened iMovie and was told I had to upgrade to new version. I did, and iMovie 10.4 started updating all the video clips in my library and turned them into jpeg files. I lost over 200 video clips of my recent vacation. Yikes!!!
