Playing Music on Mac from local files doesn't work

Sonoma 14.4.1 on an intel Mac (2020). I have about 1Tb of Music on board, in four Music Libraries, all recorded from CDs. After a recent update Music stopped working. It opens a Library, it shows the albums, and after clicking on the albums it shows the tracks. But if you click on "Play" or one of the triangles by the tracks, NOTHING happens. However, if you choose the "..." at the right side of the track listing, and then choose Show in Finder, and then click on the track file in Finder the track plays. Also, after this play, if you go back to the Music interface, that particular track that was played from Finder will also play from Music.

I tried creating a new Library from a folder with track files; Music using that Library played the tracks fine.

Adding to the mystery, my husband updated his Mac around the same time and his also has had the exact same problem after the update.

I was on the phone with an Apple technician about an hour, we rebooted into safe mode, reset the nvram, and rebooted a few more times. His proposed solution was to reinstall the operating system. I am reluctant unless all else fails. So any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Click the Apple button on the menu bar, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access

Click the + button at the bottom, enter your password, find Music in Applications > Music

If Music is open, you'll be prompted to close and re-open. Otherwise, launch Music. Your music should play.

Thank you for sharing your temporary fix! I needed my playlist to work for my Zumba® class tonight, and this did the trick. Now if Apple would just get their $!^% together and fix it, I'll be a happy camper. I knew there was a reason I didn't want to subscribe to Apple Music, and this is it. When I didn't depend on the Cloud, things went a lot more smoothly! So far, the benefits of an Apple Music subscription hasn't really outweighed my ease of use of iTunes (Music).

So. . I have discovered from Finder if you click on each music track (can't do albums or artwork???) just tracks which you can highlight in bulk . . right click, Open with, Music . . . the tracks jump back into the library . .

Going to be a long time re-importing my entire library into iTunes . . . ooooft . . .

So weirdly. I have just settled at the Mac to attempt to sort this and my music seems to be playing fine from the Music app . . . it's hard to check such a huge library but on the surface it looks fine.

I have had some correspondence from Apple about my profile name. They have changed it as it was an old email address . . . so I feel this issue has been looked at by Apple . . . is everyone else still experiencing issues?
