Playing Music on Mac from local files doesn't work

Click the Apple button on the menu bar, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access

Click the + button at the bottom, enter your password, find Music in Applications > Music

If Music is open, you'll be prompted to close and re-open. Otherwise, launch Music. Your music should play.

I don't know if this was the issue, but I went into settings and granted Music.app full disk access. (My songs are on an external hard drive.) And now all my songs are playing!

Reinstallation of the operating system may be appropriate given you cannot reinstall Music independently. I'd make sure you have a full Time Machine backup before you begin.

Thank you for sharing your temporary fix! I needed my playlist to work for my Zumba® class tonight, and this did the trick. Now if Apple would just get their $!^% together and fix it, I'll be a happy camper. I knew there was a reason I didn't want to subscribe to Apple Music, and this is it. When I didn't depend on the Cloud, things went a lot more smoothly! So far, the benefits of an Apple Music subscription hasn't really outweighed my ease of use of iTunes (Music).

Thanks for finding this work around. I have a large library that I use for Zumba and dance fitness. I need a quick er fix for this ASAP. I simply cannot keep going this convoluted route between every track . . . is there a fix please Apple?

Additional to this . . I can play all manner of songs from my library if I start from Finder.

Once they've played they are back in the library and accessible.

I cannot do this for a library with over 20,000 tracks . . .

Apple please sort this . . .

So. . I have discovered from Finder if you click on each music track (can't do albums or artwork???) just tracks which you can highlight in bulk . . right click, Open with, Music . . . the tracks jump back into the library . .

Going to be a long time re-importing my entire library into iTunes . . . ooooft . . .

So weirdly. I have just settled at the Mac to attempt to sort this and my music seems to be playing fine from the Music app . . . it's hard to check such a huge library but on the surface it looks fine.

I have had some correspondence from Apple about my profile name. They have changed it as it was an old email address . . . so I feel this issue has been looked at by Apple . . . is everyone else still experiencing issues?

Ugh! I hope that isn't necessary! Thanks for the suggestion. That'll be my last resort.

I just checked. Only my playlists that I used the above fix for will work. The rest do nothing unless they contain a song that I went to the file location and clicked.
