Audio sound edited in iMovie no being edited

I spent 1-hour deleting certain parts of an audio recording that I had using iMovie. After I finished, I exported the file to my computer. All the parts that I cut did not get cut at all. I expanded the timeline to the max to make sure I deleted what I wanted to delete. It shows 12:41 minutes in iMovie as a result of deleting the audio. When I exported it showed 14:30 minutes. I exported in m4a. I exported it in mp3. Same result.

I am using MacOS Ventura 13.2.1 - Chip Apple M1

This has been the worst Apple computer I have had so far. Too many issues...

Why the audio exported is not the edited one? How to fix this problem?

Copy the media in your project into another project and try exporting from there. To copy, do an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, and then Edit/Paste the media into a new project.

If still no luck, try deleting/resetting preferences. To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Now see if your edited audio will export correctly.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Thank you Rich. The first suggestion did not work. I copied and pasted and still, it was exported as 14 min. But it gave me the idea to add a picture and export audio only. Guess what? It exported an audio of 12.5 minutes as I wanted. Probably it has to do with some preferences as you mentioned. I am gong to check that as well. Thank you for helping me out.
