Night time resting energy data not always recorded while not wearing apple watch

I've been trying to track down why in LoseIt! the resting energy reported by my apple watch is sometimes significantly lower than expected. I discovered tonight looking through that data that most nights a baseline resting energy is recorded at night but occasionally it tracks nothing.

To clarify, I do not wear my apple watch at night (It's painful since I sleep with my hands under my pillow, wish I could change it but here we are.) It gets charged overnight right next to my iPhone. I can't find anything meaningfully different with my routine that might cause this.

I just had the same issue for the first time. I've been using the Resting Energy feature for months and then for some reason, last night, it just decided to stop estimating the resting energy for times when I'm not wearing the watch. I see several others on this stream with the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Does someone from Apple monitor these discussions? Would appreciate hearing from them if possible.
