QuickTime Player - Can't Make Video Recording

I'm on a 2019 iMac with Monterey 12.7.1 and can no longer make a video recording on QuickTime Player—from either the built-in camera or an external USB cam (both options used to work just fine). It will show the live video input for a few seconds and then appears to bog down and get stuck, and it cannot make an actual recording.


This iMac is a stinker in general, mostly due to the abysmal 1TB Fusion Drive I believe (which has 770GB free currently), but it should be able to make these recordings and has done so in the recent past. Appreciate any help or suggestions!
