Paramount+ subscription on Apple TV what's the point?

I have a Paramount+ subscription on Apple TV but almost every Paramount+ show I click on it's asking me to pay for the episode or the season. There's like maybe 3 shows that I've found that I can actually watch with the subscription without paying extra. I don't know what my question is here. I guess it's more of a rant. But I'm struggling to understand what the point is of these subscriptions on Apple TV if we still have to pay separately for shows after we've subscribed.

And I understand it might be an issue with licensing or something but if that's the case then they shouldn't be offering expensive subscriptions to a limited service. And at the very least be transparent about the offerings (un)available up front.

Just like Netflix, Tubi, and other streaming services, Paramount+ frequently updates its content library. Shows and movies are periodically added and removed based on licensing agreements and content strategies. For example, the popular series "Gossip Girl" was once available on Netflix but was later removed. This practice of rotating content is common across streaming platforms. Additionally, some series may only have selected seasons available for streaming, depending on the specific licensing agreements the platform has secured.

Navigating the Apple TV App

The Apple TV app can be quite confusing. It aggregates content from various streaming services, suggesting shows and movies from different providers even when you are specifically browsing within Apple TV+ or Paramount+. This can make it challenging to find and access content exclusively from a particular service.

Accessing Paramount+ Content Exclusively

To exclusively access content from Paramount+, follow these steps:

  1. Install the Paramount+ App: Download and install the Paramount+ app from the App Store.
  2. Login with Partner: Use the login option for partners, such as Apple TV, during the setup process.
  3. Sign Up with Email ID: Complete the sign-up process using your email ID.

By doing this, you will have access only to Paramount+ and its partner content within the Paramount+ app. This streamlined approach allows you to search and browse exclusively within the Paramount+ library, avoiding the clutter and confusion of the Apple TV app's aggregated content suggestions.

Cheers!

I understand all that. I have been using Apple TV for years. I know how it works. Why would I subscribe to a specific channel if I thought that just having Apple TV would give me access to all content? Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post, here are some screenshots to illustrate what I'm talking about:

Notice that the Paramount+ tab is selected in both screenshots.

Notice how it's the same show in both screenshots.

Notice how one episode says "Play Episode" while the other episode says "Buy from $2.99".

Notice how in the 2nd screenshot the How to Watch only shows AppleTV even though it's Paramount/CBS show.

There are a lot of shows where only the most recent season is included with the subscription but you have to pay for earlier seasons subscription or not.

If I misunderstood your reply I apologize.

I understand that licensing rights and agreements might mean that not all episodes or seasons of TV shows are always available all the time, etc. Like I said it was more of a rant. It's not too much for a paying consumer to expect to have access to every season of a show on a channel they've paid money to have access to.

… almost every Paramount+ show I click on it's asking me to pay for the episode or the season.

Several movies and TV shows are available from multiple content providers. Scroll down to How to Watch, to see if Paramount+ is among those content providers. Then select your preferred content provider there, if a different one was default for that movie or TV show.

Never said Paramount+ is an Apple owned streaming service.

Check the screenshots in my reply above which shows that the same show on Paramount+ has one episode for free and another that's for sale.

No other streaming service offers it for me to subscribe to. It's under the Paramount+ tab and the only option to buy is from AppleTV (Not AppleTV+).

The shows I'm looking at are all Paramount/CBS shows, however, apparently different streaming services (not channels/networks -- Hulu, etc.) have rights to different seasons.

I get that licensing rights and agreements are a thing, that's why I said in my original comment that it was more of a rant...but it's not too much for a consumer to expect to have access to all shows/episodes/seasons owned by a channel they've subscribed to on the platform they subscribed to it on.

I have an annual Paramount+ subscription and only watch it from the Paramount+ website when signed in through Safari or via my AppleTV 4K with the Paramount+ app. Neither viewing medium has any content sitting behind a pay wall.

With AppleTV+, which I also have an annual subscription, not everything is free. That is particularly true when you Add Channels (e.g. Paramount+) from the AppleTV Store. I am not going to add the Paramount+ channel via AppleTV+ just to test if my subscription to it remains valid. If it is a different subscription process by adding a channel, then that might explain why you are seeing Paramount+ pricing attempting to watch it in AppleTV+.

I have this same question!!! I pay for all these separate apps and Paramount+ never works! I’ve been dealing with their technical support for over a year and we still can’t fix the problem so I was trying to find an affordable TV app that I could stream CBS shows, including entire seasons. I am finding that the only way to do that is by paying for Hulu or YouTube TV at over $100 each month and I refuse to do that. I was trying to see if I paid for Apple TV+, if I would be able to stream all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods from CBS. The regular Apple TV app right now is allowing me to do so on my phone but not on my TV and I don’t even have a paid subscription for that right now. so my real question is if I subscribe to Apple TV+ will be able to stream all seasons of CBS shows? I cannot find this answer anywhere and nobody can seem to answer it for me.

Yeah, that’s what I’m just figuring out while talking to Apple support. So they want me to pay $10 for Apple plus and then pay another five dollars in order to watch the Paramount app things through their app. Paramount never works, but I still don’t wanna have to pay an extra $10 a month just to try and see if it will work through someone else’s app.

Nope.

Apple TV+ is a subscription service for original content offered by Apple, and is entirely unrelated to Paramount+, CBS, Hulu, Disney, NetFlix, or {any of the other streaming services} content and offerings.

Confusingly, the Apple TV apps and the Apple TV hardware can have apps and purchased subscriptions installed from other streaming services, as well as also being able to play the Apple TV+ streaming content for subscribers to the respective streaming services, but the Apple TV app and Apple TV hardware are separate from the Apple TV+ streaming service.

And Apple TV+ subscriptions are separate from CBS streaming snd CBS subscriptions.

If you want to see what content is playing where on which streaming services, the JustWatch website can be useful.

IIRC, Paramount+ was silly to set up with a second parallel login required over on the Paramount+ website to enable various features, but does work.
