I'm facing the same issue, and it's becoming increasingly frustrating. Not only am I unable to finish a complete battery charge without encountering a high temperature alert, but I'm also experiencing a massive battery drain. Despite reaching out to support, they weren't able to offer me a compelling solution, none of the recommendations given worked out.

If you have not already done so, perform a forced restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated or poet-update software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings - after which you will need to restore your data from your backup:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad - and you can explore your available options:

My iPad Pro m2 overheating even after 2 times resetting iPad. I also followed forced restart iPad method 3 or 4 times , tried to restart iPad 5 times. But same issue remains , it overheats within just 3 or 4 minutes of the usage.

I also resetted iPad from the apple customercare. But no use , still iPad m2 pro 8 gb ram 256 rom heats up .

Just by touching it flares up a lot.

This all started after 17.4.1. Update. Everything running so smooth in last update. It overheats from the right side of the panel till mid portion of the iPad.

Let’s not create a conspiracy theory here, as I’m using the latest iPad Pro and having the same heating issue as I posted above.

in no way is Apple forcing people to update. However I do suggest that you put a feedback in as a bug on the Apple.com/feedback pages with what you are doing when your iPads get warm so they can figure out the iOS update that is causing all of these devices to heat up
