Issues with CarPlay on my Tacoma

I am running iOS 17.4 ever since updating from iOS 17.2 my truck won't recognize that my phone is plugged in consistently. I say consistently because it will sometimes but after unplugging it won't recognize it again for 8hrs or so of the truck being turned off. Toyota told me it was a software issue and that gracenote just couldn't keep up with the apple updates, this seems unacceptable to me, is there anything else I can do? Why isn't the software update from Apple backwards compatible with the radio, this is extremely frustrating and pushing me towards android.

2022 Tacoma with gracenote stereo running with software 1785 (up to date according to Toyota)

Connection is usb to the stereo

Since upgrading to iOS 17.4 on my iPhone 13 Pro, I've noticed something similar with my car, a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer LT3 (running the latest software). The only exception is that I can disconnect my iPhone and reconnect it and it will work but it takes about a minute to reconnect. I'm not using Gracenote but it's been extremely flaky after the update. Waze and Apple Maps lock up all the time now. I can usually unfreeze it by tapping the car's infotainment system Home button and then going back into CarPlay. I agree that CarPlay is getting worse with each update.

I've got a 2017 Tacoma and also after 17.4.1 update my iPhone keeps disconnecting from the truck. Toyota will not update their software on the truck without a major cost. Seems most logical for Apple to make sure their software is backward compatible to all manufactures to connect to.

So, I'm stuck forgetting devices on both the truck and phone and then reconnecting. Love technology when it works hate it when it doesn't
