Compatibility-Target Display Mode

I have a Mid-2011 27” iMac running High Serria, I am considering getting a M2 Mac Mini with a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, and a Thunderbolt cable, so I can use the iMac as the main display in Target Display Mode. The adapter states that it supports Thunderbolt video signals, many people are saying that the outputting device just needs to produce a Thunderbolt signal to work on the 2011 iMacs. Is this true and would this work?

thanks

I’d like to know from people who have tested this with similar setups and Not from the documentation

It is not possible. The Apple Silicon Macs do not support Target display mode in any way and will not see the connected iMac as a valid display so no signal is produced.
