Spotify won't start on my Apple Watch 7, iOS 9.6.3

Spotify has been working beautifully on my Apple Watch until it wouldn't start a couple of days ago. When I click the app, nothing happens. Everything else on the watch works fine. This is what I've done to resolve it:


  1. Verified WiFi connection is the same as my iPhone
  2. Ensured Bluetooth is connected
  3. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling app
  4. Restarted Apple Watch
  5. Restarted iPhone


Absolutely nothing works. When I click the app from the complication, nothing happens. Same thing when I attempt to open it from the apps screen.


I don't think anything was updated on my watch, but I can't be sure.

Responding to my own issue with additional info:


I did some research and see that a new version of the Spotify app was released a few days ago which is when Spotify stopped working on my watch. I'm guessing that the version that downloaded to my watch is incompatible with the iOS 9.6.3 - I have an old iPhone 8 (I know, uncool for someone writing into this forum!) and suspect the Spotify team didn't adequately test their app with this version of iOS.


So, I'll take this fight to Spotify and also try to figure out how to obtain an earlier Spotify version.
