6.33 gb 1hr 8min iMovie on desktop, using Superdrive dl burner, memorex dvd-r dl disc (8.5 gb 8x 240 min), tried slower burn speed 3x, still unsuccessful. Aforementioned code comes up after about a minute. Apple support didn't know, suggested trying different brand disc, so purchased Verbatim, arriving tomorrow. Does anyone else have same problem? Superdrive is new, it plays other movies perfectly. My Mac is 2015; using latest version Monterey 12.7.3. Have not tried burning shorter movie or single layered disc. However, my old disc burner worked perfectly for that.....just having problem since the dual layer thing.

You are burning a data disc, not a movie disc. A data disc will hold only 4.7 GB because it does not compress the data. It's like you were saving a file to the disc. So if you have a 20 GB movie, less than 2 hours duration, and tried to save it as data, it would abort because the disc does not have the storage capacity to store 20GB of uncompressed data. A DVD authoring program (like Toast), on the other hand, will compress the movie in an MPEG-2 format from 20GB down to the 4.7 GB necessary to fit on the disc.

Take a look at this thread for suggestions as to a DVD authoring program. DVD Creator by peng guipnig is one that is recommended. Available at the online app store for about $14.99 the last time I looked.

Hi,

I think that you have pretty well solved it. My reading indicates that the error code message that you posted occurs from media issues, that is, some problem related to the type of disc being used.

I suspect that you will be fine if you use a single layer Verbatim DVD -r and burn at 4x speed. You don't need a double layer disc to burn a 1hr 8 min movie. A single layer disc can hold a movie of 2hrs duration, no matter what the GB size of the movie, assuming that you are burning a movie DVD and not a data DVD. A data DVD can only hold 4.7 GB because it doesn't compress it like a movie DVD does. To make a movie DVD you would need a DVD burning app, like Roxio Toast for example.

I got Verbatim brand DL (my Mac shows my movie won't fit on 2hr single disc (you say should fit) which I tried before my problems started with the DL disc). It started to burn, then stopped, said error or bad disc again. I viewed the movie, found a glitch, re-downloaded onto my desktop, checked it, looks fine. Tried again. After about 10 minutes this time, it stopped again (burning). It seems to be trying. I'm not using a burn app. I insert disc to Superdrive, then open, drag my movie from desktop to finder window, and click burn. Do I need a burn app i.e. the one you mentioned Roxio or Disdem (saw on YouTube)...? I'm hoping a free app though lol. So you say burn app needed, others say no. I'm confused. I'll have to look into it when time permits. I'm spending a huge amount of time on something that should be simple. I've got to put a new carburetor on my lawnmower now haha. Thanks for your help! I will post if the problem is resolved. There must be many people having problems like mine.
