how to import camcorder video from a non supported Sony camcorder DCR TRV 33 per the apple list is there software to buy

So I bought firewires and adapters and the Mac recognizes the Sony but no video ever shows. It's on and playing, and nothing in the window. I looked up their supported camcorders and it's not listed. I do have a daisy chain going on firewire to an adapter to 2 thunderbolts into my usbc port.

Any specific help would be much appreciated. I also have a Samsung with av out that I have not even attempted yet.

Thanks,

Margaret

In theory it should work with the 2 adapters but lots of people experience your problem.

There is no definitive answer and the fact that your Sony is not "supported" is immaterial as probably 95% of all camcorders are not supported but work perfectly OK.

"Supported" simply means that Apple have tested them but as there are countless thousands of camcorders over the last 25 years, Apple can only test a minute percentage.

Suffice it to say there is no reason why your camera shouldn't work.

You might get some more meaningful responses if you post this on the Final Cut Pro forum.

One cheap strategy would be to buy a video capture card like this one which is plugged into the AV-Out sockets of your camcorder and the other end goes into your computer's USB socket. Just check that the AV connecters are the correct type.

The only drawback with this type of connecter is that the video quality may not be quite as good as direct Firewire but it should still be watchable.

The Elgato is basically the same as the device I mentioned except nearly 10 times more expensive.

Video Grabber

Experience has shown me that in most occasions the only difference in paying the earth for something is to be seen in your bank balance. Paying for a name is expensive.

Both devices tap into the camcorder/deck's analogue output so analogue quality is all you will get.

EDIT: Just seen you have bought the Elgato. I hope it meets your needs.
