Present slideshow without taking over second screen?

This has been an issue for years and years, and I'm just wondering if it has been fixed or if Apple has decided to send those of us who need it to Powerpoint/Google Slides? To be unable to control live streams, audio, check other apps, chat etc. while presenting makes Keynote pretty much useless in a lot of scenarios as you have to stop the presentation to do... well, anything at all.

In previous discussions it has been claimed that Powerpoint does the same. It does not. Powerpoint allows usage of second screen. It has also been mentioned to use a secondary device, like an iPad. This is also not a satisfactory solution, as it in live on stage scenarios it would require video input from one device and audio input from another, which is not always possible in preinstalled stage solutions, or would require carrying a third sort of mixer/switch device, which is, again, not a realistic solution (just using Powerpoint would save us from carrying two to three devices, not to mention the cost).

Hi datagreier

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community!

Re: "Present slideshow without taking over second screen?"

Wondering which version of KeyNote you have installed:

Eg: An option shown in the article: Play a Keynote presentation on Mac - Apple Support

says:

  • "Present in a window: Shows the slide show in one window and the presenter display in another.

This is useful when you don’t have a secondary display or projector and need to access your presenter notes, desktop or other apps without interrupting the presentation."

There is more info. and "how to" details in the article above.

I am using version 13.2. The issue is not that I don't have two screens. The issue is to present in full screen on e.g. a projector, while still being able to use my primary screen for whetever I want. It kind of works running it in a window and then setting the window to full screen, so thanks for that!

However, I have now run in to another issue: It seems like the resolution is much lower when doing this?

Re: It seems like the resolution is much lower when doing this?

Mmmmm, am no expert in this area ... I guess the lower-res is likely because you kind of stretch that small window image when you view it in full screen ... I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference to the resolution. However a full res image displaying in a small window could take more resources that may be needed elsewhere while in that situation.
