wifi connection problem after upgrading to Sonoma

WiFi connection problems after recent upgrade of my MacBook Pro to Sonoma

(1) Connection to WiFi fails multiple times every day (WiFi router and all the other WiFi devices work perfectly fine). Tried "ping" from the terminal to the WiFi router, all packets lost. The connection problem was not reflected in the Wi-Fi status icon in the menu bar, which showed connection was still on.

(2) Tried this when dealing with the above problem: switch WiFi off, then switch it on. New problem comes: the MacBook can no longer get connected to any WiFi (reflected in the Wi-Fi status icon this time). Tried different WiFi, with VPN, Firewall software all turned off. No success!

Current solution to problem (1) and (2) is to reboot the system. WiFi is back after reboot. But the same problems happen again and again just in a few hours.

Nope, these two problems have nothing to do with the signal strength or the firmware of the router, for two reasons: (a) Never had these two problems before upgrading to Sonoma, not even once. The same wifi worked perfectly fine before upgrading. (b) Take a look of the screenshot below. It shows everything about the problem (1), namely, the wifi signal strength was quite good (refer to 1); the system's connection seems to be on as well, with the same address (refer to 2) before the problem happens; (3) but all packets lost for ping (refer to 3). It keeps happening every single day after the upgrading.

Check the WiFi Signal Strength (RSSI) and Noise levels by Option-clicking the WiFi icon on the menu bar. Signal strength should be somewhere between -30db to -60db (-60db is a low signal where you may encounter issues). Noise levels should be around -90db. You can also check the connection type being used and its transmit rate.

Here is an Apple article with instructions for troubleshooting WiFi issues including running an Apple WiFi diagnostic:

Run the third party app EtreCheck and post the report here so we can examine it for clues. Software issues can easily affect WiFi on a Mac. After generating an EtreCheck report, you can try booting into Safe Mode to see if that makes any difference with the WiFi.

You can also try creating a new macOS user account. Log out of the main user account & log into the new user account to see how things behave. If this works, then some setting or Login Item with your main user account is likely at fault.

Does your router and/or access point have the latest system firmware?

What is the exact model of your Mac? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".

What version of macOS were you running before the upgrade to Sonoma? Were you having any issues with the laptop at that time? Is the OS upgrade to Sonoma the only change?

Edit: Power cycle the router and any access points. Give them at least five minutes to finish booting.
