Can't disable locked private browsing in Safari

As the title says, I'm unable to disable the option for locking the private browsing tabs in Safari.

I go to Safari Settings > Privacy and I uncheck the box that says "Require Touch ID to view locked tabs", and then close the settings window. When I reopen Safari settings, that box is always checked again, and when I reopen the browser, private browsing tabs are always locked.

I have tried disabling the option under different scenarios (both with and without private browsing tabs, locked and unlocked, etc) but whenever I go to Safari settings, the option is always checked/active again.

I'm using Sonoma 14.3.1 in a MacBook Pro M1. Safari version is 17.3.1 (19617.2.4.11.12).

I just updated to 17.4, and I still have the same behavior. Can't turn off the private browsing lock.
