Puzzling Keynote Transition Menu
It's been a couple of years since the "new" Keynote for iOS and I still can't get used to some of the odd, counterintuitive changes. You see that guy in the screenshot below? Yeah that's me (sometimes) when I'm trying to build presentations in Keynote. I have about 300 presentations in my portfolio. You'd think with all that time spent, I'd be an expert by now. But I am still hunting and searching for some things that aren't where I expect them to be.
Here's a good example. When doing a slide transition, the option for 'magic move' is listed twice in the transition options. Why? What is the usefulness of this? Somebody must have thought this would be a good idea, but it escapes me. Can anyone take a guess?
Another transition-related question: When I'm building a slide deck, let's say I'm making slide #5. I plan to magic-move to the next slide (#6, as of yet not created), so I select the MM transition. The moment I select it, the slide fades to black and then reappears. What is the meaning of this fade-out? Since I don't know what the fade-to-black means, I just ignore it.
Then I tap 'done' and I get a pop-up asking me if I want to duplicate the slide. The options are "duplicate" and "cancel":
Even though I've done this a hundred times, I still trip over that word "cancel". To me, "cancel" means cancel the entire operation (of adding the transition) and go back to my slide deck with no transition added. Then I realize my goof (that 'cancel' actually means "don't duplicate") and I have to go through the process all over again. I chalk this up to the design not going through user beta testing before release. I think it's pretty clear that the options should be a simple 'yes' or 'no'.
Summary:
- Why is 'magic move' listed twice in the list of transitions?
- Why does the slide fade to black and then suddenly reappear when I select 'magic move' as a transition.
