No street view on ipad Google Maps
Ipad version 17.2. Street view has not available for weeks. It’s happened before but only for a few days. I deleted and reinstalled the app. Still nothing.

Hi, in an earlier post I said I could not get Street view in google maps. But I seem to have found answer. An earlier post said go to layers and select street view and blue lines appear on map. Okay. BUT, you must lightly touch the blue line and then street view appears on the left. If the touch is too hard it turns into a dropped pin and does not give you street view. I discovered this purely by accident so hope it’s helpful.

Street View isn’t “not available” or “lost”, and this has nothing to do with iPadOS. Google simply updated the app in early 2024 and changed the way in which you launch full screen Street View.
Previously, you dropped a pin and tapped the Street View preview image in the sidebar that opened on the left. You still have to drop a pin and the sidebar still opens, but the Street View preview image is no longer in the sidebar. Rather, it now appears in a tiny box in the lower left corner of the map. Tap it to open full screen Street View. This simple change frustrated me for weeks because I was so used to using the sidebar.
Also, you can launch the split screen Street View experience by turning on the new Street View layer and quickly tapping a blue line (rather than long pressing to drop a pin). Some may find this arduous due to the extra step required to switch layers, though.
And you can always toggle between full screen and split Street View modes (no matter how you entered Street View) by tapping the diagonal arrow button in the lower right corner of the Street View screen. I use both views (pin drop for full screen, Street View layer for split) depending on what I’m trying to do.
Sorry, but no luck. I’m on 17.3.1. Yes thanks for pointing out the “new choice” in layers, and yes streets turn blue, but when I tap on a street the left side of screen tells me where it is but there is no street view frame.
on my iPhone on iOS 15 everything works as it used to?
Thanks. This works for me too. I hope they reconsider this choice . From a usability point of view it’s bad. As a user, say I find a location I want to visit. Then I need to change modes to turn on street view and reselect the location to get the actual street view. Bad design for users.
It works fine for me (iPadOS 17.3, Google Maps 6.100.1).
Use Street View Layer
I don't get it either. This is a real mess because I am a teacher and had a whole lesson plan starting in 2 weeks on using Google Maps :(
Thank you Tony. I’m using iPadOS 17.3.1, and have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to fix the loss of street view for the last few weeks. Your suggestion did work, though I also had to first go through a process of tapping on the map coordinates to get it to work. Now all I have to do, after making sure “street view” is selected, is use the very lightest touch possible on the map, to get the street view window to slide open on the left half of the screen. It seems like google maps “learned” my process of accessing street view, because now it simply slides open the street view any time I tap on the map. Why on earth should this have become so complicated, and why does this not affect all users? Puzzling. Loathe wasting so much time fixing stuff like this. Thanks for posting a fix!
Thanks for that. I’d discovered the “lightly touch the blue line” way to go, but just noticed the small street view lower left. Maybe Apple and Google are overstaffed and they have nothing better than come up with usually pretty pointless “improvements”. But again thanks for pointing that out
It is even worse…. If you drop a point no streetview icon is shown. When you swipe to another app and go back to Maps then there is an icon (!!!) but this icon doesn’t work. So Google please bring it back ….
As I said above, tap Layers, which is here …
… followed by Street View, which is here.
iPadOS 17.3 is current.
Tried it and it works. Previously I never had to go thru all those steps. I don’t know what changed but thanks.
Glad it’s working for you.
Enjoy your iPad.
Thanks worked for me and I couldn’t find out what the problems was
OK, I can’t find Layers! Where the **** are layers? Please take a pic. TIA
